***** HERE ***** PALMETTO PISTOL, SECONDARY CONFEDERATE ARM NVSN
Price: $7,500.00 OBRO
HERE ***** THE PALMETTO PISTOL conforms exactly to the Model 1842 pattern except for the barrel & lockplate markings. It is 14 inches overall with an 8.5 inch smoothbre barrel of .54 caliber. The barrel has a brass blade front sight and a swivel ramrod. All the mounts are brass. The barrel is marked with a "P" "V" and a palmetto tree at the breech, with "1853" on the tang and "WM GLAZE & CO." on the left flat. It should be noted that the dash under the "M" is really two short dashes. This is true for this mark on all three types of Palmetto firearms. The flat lockplate is marked with a "spiral tree" surrounded by "PALMETTO ARMORY S*C*" in front of the hammer and "COLUMBIA" and "S.C. 1852" on the tail. (see William Glaze and the Palmetto Armory by Jack Allen Meyer - S.C. State Museum, Columbia, S.C. 1982, 1994)
Condition: Very good to excellant with all original parts present. Brass and steel with appropriate patina. Wood is sound with no breaks or cracks.
THIS IS A FINE EXAMPLE OF A RARE SECONDARY AN AUTHENTIC CONFEDERATE ARM MANY OF WHICH WENT HOME IN THE KNAPSACK OF SHERMAN'S TROOPS AFTER THE SACK AND PILLAGE OF COLUMBIA AND THE DESTRUCTION OF THE PALMETTO ARMORY.
